A new governance leadership team was announced at the annual conference of the Australian College of Theology on 15 June 2019.
Greg Hammond OAM, Interim Chair since July 2018, gave notice that the Board of Directors had elected Professor Roger Lewis as its next Chair and the Rt Rev Dr Paul Barker as Deputy Chair. Greg Hammond will Chair the Audit and Risk Management Committee. These roles will commence on 1 September 2019. Rev Dr Brian Harris will continue to Chair the Academic Board.
Professor Lewis has wide experience in university teaching, research and governance. He is a Senior Professor at the University of Wollongong and Associate Dean-Research in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences. In addition to his qualifications as a physicist, he holds a Bachelor of Theology from the ACT, having completed units across several ACT colleges.
Rt Rev Dr Paul Barker is Assistant Bishop in the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne. Bishop Barker is an ACT graduate with extensive exposure and experience in theological education around the world, particularly in South East Asia. Bishop Barker has a strong publication record and considerable experience in the governance of Christian organisations.
Accepting his new role, Professor Lewis commented “I am honoured to contribute to the work of ACT in this way and at this time. There are both challenges and opportunities before us in Higher Education. ACT is well placed to meet them, with an established excellence in learning and teaching, as evidenced in the latest Student Experience Survey results. I very much look forward to working with the new governance team.”
