AUT Ranked Australia’s Top University for Student Experience

The Australian University of Theology (AUT) is the top scoring university in the 2025 Student Experience Survey for quality of entire educational experience.

The AUT’s score of 96 for undergraduate students was higher than every university and exceeded the university average (76.2) by almost 20 points. AUT achieved a similar result for postgraduate coursework students with a score of 96 compared to the university average of 77.1.

AUT has come first among institutions with over 1,000 students in every year that the survey has been conducted with undergraduate students, which is now eleven years in a row.

This is the first year AUT has been listed in the university category of the national report after becoming a university in 2024.

The former Governor General of Australia and AUT Chancellor, General (Retd) David Hurley, said “these outstanding results are a testament to the excellent teaching of lecturers across the AUT, and the generous assistance of other staff and members of our governance. I thank them all for their diligence and care.”

AUT scored highly on the question “I am free to express my views at [institution]”. An average of 94% of AUT undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students agreed with this statement, compared to a university average of 76%.

Professor James Dalziel, Vice-Chancellor of the AUT, said “I am very pleased to see AUT continue to score highly on overall experience and especially freedom of expression, particularly given the disappointing scores for freedom of expression at some public universities as documented in the recent Menzies Centre Report.”

In 2026 the Australian University of Theology (AUT) had approximately 2,600 students studying theology and Christian ministry, from Undergraduate Certificate to Doctoral programs, across a network of 15 Australian Affiliated Colleges. The AUT was previously named the Australian College of Theology, and was founded in 1891.
