Announcement: Conclusion of Relationship between the Australian College of Theology and the Australian College of Christianity

10th August 2020

The Australian College of Theology (ACT), a consortium of 18 affiliated colleges that teach over 3,000 students in the field of theology, has today announced the conclusion of its relationship with the Australian College of Christianity, a Korean language online and blended provider of vocational training in counselling which, through a relationship with the Melbourne School of Theology (an affiliated college of the ACT), was approved to teach several of the ACT’s degrees.

The conclusion of this relationship arises from concerns with aspects of the management of the Australian College of Christianity’s teaching and promotion of the ACT’s degrees. When concerns were first raised, the ACT consulted with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency on a plan of investigation, which was then implemented by the ACT. The end of the relationship is an outcome of the ACT’s investigation.

This announcement does not suggest any negative view of the lecturers, and their teaching qualities, employed by the Australian College of Christianity, nor students studying at the organisation.

The conclusion of the relationship means that no new students will be admitted to ACT degrees through the Australian College of Christianity, and existing students will move into a two year “Teach-out” period with the Australian College of Christianity, after which any students with unfinished studies will be supported by the ACT through cross-institutional arrangements with other providers. The Australian College of Christianity will conclude all teaching of ACT degrees by the middle of 2022.
