Overview -- 概述

The Australian University of Theology (AUT) recognises the multicultural context of Australia and need for quality higher education in religious studies, as well as the international reach of the courses of the Australian University of Theology. As a specialist higher education provider in this area, AUT is committed to offering high quality courses in languages other than English. This allows greater access to courses and deeper engagement with the subject material when studied in the student’s primary language.

This page outlines resources available for our students or applicants for AUT’s courses in a language other than English. Given that Chinese is the only current language other than English that AUT offers, this page relates to the delivery of courses in Chinese. The management of delivery of AUT courses and provision of student support services are outlined further in the Languages Other Than English Policy.

Commitment 承诺

AUT is committed to meetings its obligations under the Higher Education Standards Framework (2021) for courses delivered in a language other than English. These standards require education providers to ensure that “admitted students have the academic preparation and proficiency in English needed to participate in their intended study”. Within the context of courses delivered in a language other than English, and noting that some students and student markets are bilingual, with proficiency in English as well as a language other than English, and other student markets which do not have sufficient proficiency in English, in order to ensure that all prospective and current students have access to appropriate information and processes relating to their course, AUT will ensure that appropriate material is provided for students in their language of instruction.

  • Prescribed reading material and learning materials will be provided to you in the nominated language of instruction.

  • You must submit all written assessments in the language of instruction, not in English, unless otherwise specified by AUT.

  • Your college will provide a bilingual contact person to provide interpretation to you, and on your behalf, when interacting with AUT staff and processes as needed. These staff will support Chinese students in applying the translated policies.

  • You are free to communicate with your college staff and AUT staff in English or in Chinese, whichever you prefer. This also relates to lodging any grievances. Academic Governance Charter 学术监管政策

The purpose of this policy is to enunciate the academic governance arrangements of the Australian University of Theology.  This policy is to be read in conjuction with the Corporate Governance Policy.

Assessment Guidelines 评核指南

Policy Statement

The Australian University of Theology has a responsibility to provide a quality assured learning environment in accordance with its Strategic Plan and broader legislative and regulatory requirements, especially the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the Higher Education Standards Framework (HESF, 2015), 1.4.1-4. In fulfilment of this responsibility the AUT will require affiliated colleges to establish assessment practices that are open, program based, consistent and fair. The AUT will support the colleges by providing benchmarking, moderation, professional development and other relevant resources. The AUT will formulate guidelines to enable the affiliated colleges to provide assessment tasks and feedback that direct and enhance student learning and provide credible information about student achievement.

Assessment is a systematic process for facilitating and evaluating student learning. The process includes the design, development and implementation of assessment tasks, and the judgment and reporting of student performance. The purpose of assessment is to facilitate, measure and certify the achievement of specified course and unit learning outcomes and progress towards developing the Graduate Attributes.

Assessment tasks and processes perform four functions in student learning:

AUT is committed to maintaining high standards of conduct in all aspects of its governance and operations and to complying with all applicable laws and regulations. All Relevant Persons are expected to abide by this policy and conduct themselves in accordance with the standards of conduct in this policy. The acceptance of a role by a Relevant Person constitutes an agreement by the Relevant Person to do so. This policy also provides guidance as to the responsibility and accountability of individuals for reporting and investigating reports of unethical conduct.

Policy Statement

The Australian University of Theology affirms the biblical mandate to strive towards a just and compassionate society. Therefore the AUT is committed as a Christian educational institution to understanding our society and contributing to its well-being. The AUT also desires to produce graduates who contribute to society, bringing a Christian perspective to bear as they engage with their society, and be people of influence within their communities.

To establish the process of conferral of academic awards of the AUT, within the constraints of the Academic Governance Charter.

This policy applies to all students who are currently enrolled in an AUT award, and also to all applicants with prior study with the AUT.

Policy Statement

The Australian University of Theology is required by the Australian Qualifications Framework (Second Edition, January 2013) to have in place a conferral policy documenting the surrender of documentation.  The policy also takes into account the place of the Chair of the Academic Board in conferring an academic award on behalf of the Academic Board, and also formalises the process for the analysis of graduates and the publication of the list of AUT graduates. This policy is in accordance with the Academic Governance Charter which delegates the Academic Board with the responsibility of conferring academic awards of the AUT, other than the honorary degree of Doctor of Theology (honoris causa).

This Policy provides the framework for developing and managing courses in the AUT. Critical Incident Policy 严重事件政策

Policy and procedures to manage critical incidents are expected of organisations and mandated by government regulations, notably the (National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018) and the ESOS Act 2000. Consequently the AUT is required to be satisfied that colleges have such instruments in place. This document provides requirements and guidance to college Principals to develop or review such policies and procedures for each of their colleges.

Whilst government regulations focus on critical incidents affecting students, policy should cover all likely victims and also be part of the risk management plan of an organisation. The AUT advises against having multiple instruments serving similar purposes and instead recommends that the obligations set by the National Code be integrated into college risk management plans.

Critical incidents are likely to be infrequent to rare and consequently provide limited opportunity to acquire expertise by experience. The onus is on colleges to adapt this advice in a way that enables them to respond best to their circumstances.

The Australian University of Theology (AUT) engages in a moderation process in order to maintain the accreditation of the AUT suite of courses, to assist, support and to facilitate each Affiliated College’s realisation of the full potential of its formational, educative and scholarly endeavour, and to maintain and improve the quality of learning and teaching of all Affiliated Colleges.

Moderation of assessment processes establishes comparability of standards of student performance across; for example, different markers, locations, subjects, providers and/or courses of study.

Units approved by AUT for delivery in accredited courses are allocated to unit categories. Grouping units into various categories also serves as to assist in the functional operation of AUT’s Moderation system.
