If you’ve been in any job for a period of time you’ll know just how all-consuming work can be. It takes up most of our waking hours and consumes much of our thinking, even outside our working hours. As Christians, an added burden is that sometimes we’re not sure what it looks like to follow Jesus in the nitty gritty of our workplace, the specifics of our job. We’re often unsure how our faith is supposed to intersect with our work.
In God’s Service: Being a distinctive disciple in your workplace, a Bible study series, written by SMBC graduates Andrew Laird and Steven Naoum, aims to encourage Christians at work to be the ‘salt of the earth…light of the world’ (Matthew 5:13–14). Andrew and Steven have applied this biblical truth to being a distinctive disciple at work through a variety of workplace challenges specific to the Australian context.
The 84 page booklet contains ten studies aimed at Bible study groups, along with ten Bible ‘bites’ that take about 10 to 15 minutes while on the commute to work or during a lunch break. In addition, there are four brief appendix chapters on workplace evangelism; the secret to work satisfaction; six tips for managing all consuming work; and identity and work.
