Content
Section 1: Introduction
1. What is preaching?
2. Preaching in the Bible
Address at least two of:
a. The preaching of Jesus
b. Apostolic preaching in Acts
c. The Old Testament prophets
d. Deuteronomy as a sermon
e. Hebrews as a sermon
Section 2: Sermon preparation
1. Preparing a sermon
2. Hermeneutics for the preacher
3. A preaching plan
Section 3: Preaching different Bible genres
Address at least three biblical genres
Section 4: Preaching demonstration
Preaching will be demonstrated by guest lecturers and preachers, usually working with a selected book of the Bible.
Section 5: Preaching and change
1. Congregational change
a. How sermons work to produce change
b. Preaching to the heart and motivational structures of the heart
c. The elements of content, expression, wisdom, timing
d. The place of preaching in congregational revitalisation
2. Self-evaluation and change—preaching as a life-long process
a. How to listen to your sermons
b. Using criteria for reviewing sermons
c. Self-evaluation and response to comments
Sections 1–5 are weighted at 20% each
